HOW TO BE AUTHENTIC, PART 2
In my blog post last week, I talked about how important it is to share stories about yourself and your life in your branding. That is so important because it helps people connect with you on a personal level and builds trust with your ideal community of people in who you are so that they feel comfortable buying from you when they are ready for what you have to offer.
The next part that’s important in being authentic is sharing content in your own words. Most of our thoughts and ideas are not original, but are placed in our minds from influences around us: conversations with other people, books we read, podcasts we listen to, the news and media, etc. But what is original, is our life and experiences. So if you share from your heart with your words, you are taking knowledge from sources and authentically giving it out from a point of view that no one else has. That is pretty cool!
Sharing in this way will help your community and audience to connect with you, instead of just with the message. And since anyone can preach the same message, but only you can share it in your authentic way, this is how you stand out in your uniqueness.
There are so many people, books and podcasts that have influenced my beliefs and helped me take the steps towards creating my own entrepreneurial journey. I’ve felt completely transformed by books I’ve read such as The Obesity Code by Jason Fung, and Essentialism by Greg McKeown and The Audacity to Be Queen by Gina DeVee. These books have helped me discover my passion and purpose and more importantly take the action steps towards making it a reality!
I love recommending these books to people! But I also like putting together these 3 VERY different messages into my own words and sharing what I learned from them because those combined with my life and experiences makes my message unique.
I’ve been very influenced by my interest in health and wellness, and reading the Obesity Code inspired me to dive more into that community and learn about entrepreneurs everywhere who are trying to make a difference by spreading this message of wellness to others through coaching. I’ve been so inspired by this community and have a deep desire to be a part of it.
When I read Essentialism, I was struggling at my previous corporate job, with my time being monopolized by others’ agenda’s instead of my own. I was empowered by McKeown’s words, tips and suggestions, to take back my life and live it on my own terms.
And when I read The Audacity to Be Queen by Gina DeVee, I was on the verge of making a huge leap of faith to quit my job and start my own business. DeVee’s words, her message, connected with me on such a deep level that I felt like she wrote that book for ME! It motivated me to take action right away to become an entrepreneur, and so I did.
How did all 3 of these authors speak so personally to me? And how do I, in turn, take what I learned from these authors and speak personally to others about my message? I be me, and use my own words, as if I am talking to a friend. That’s the best way I can describe it. Because we all want real connections, we want to find others who speak to us like a friend would. That is authenticity, and that is what we should all be striving for.
