Are you unsure where to start?
Before my vision became a tangible, designed brand, it was all in my head. I thought about it every day for almost a year before I even started putting it down on paper or onto my screen. My thoughts were so powerful because they formed my idea perfectly, and I expected to be able to translate it easily into a professional design. But that isn’t how it happened! I was surprised to find that even being a graphic designer, I still didn’t really know how to begin designing my own brand. I didn’t want to be influenced by other brands, so I was hesitant to do too much research online. So instead, I took to pen and paper. I began by journaling, describing my vision in words. It wasn’t glamorous at first, I didn’t even like it very much. But the exercise helped me realize what my brand was all about. Here is a sample of one of my first writing exercises from August 9, 2020:
Who I am and why? What is my vision?
I want to help and serve others.
I want to make a difference in the world.
I believe I can inspire others to make a difference too.
I see to be involved in the community who is creating a greater good through health, wellness and lifestyle.
I want to be a resource for that community to take their ideas to another level, to help them step out of their comfort zone and capitalize on their potential.
I want to help make the world healthier one brand at a time.
Communities are stronger when they are healthier, a person’s mindspace is stronger when the person is healthier, health cultivates motivation and purpose - which is how it happened for me!
I want to share my drive to serve a greater purpose with others and help inspire them.
So go ahead and dust off that journal that your “annoyingly-inspired” friend gifted you years ago. It’s time to start writing down what you want, what you believe in and who you want to serve! Download the free guide I’ve created for you, the Branding Cheat Sheet.
