FINDING YOUR UNIQUENESS.

When I start with a new client, the first thing we do together is explore her purpose, her story, what inspires her and why. It’s easier to claim your purpose without really understanding where it comes from. But that aspect, “the why,” of your purpose is usually where you discover what makes you unique, so it’s really important to dig deeply here.

Once you understand your why, your uniqueness will become clear and it will show in your messaging. It allows your messaging to go from generic to personal. And when your message speaks personally to an ideal client, this is how it resonates, this is what makes you stand out.

When I started developing my why, I went all the way back to my childhood. I remember believing in my purpose to serve others as an entrepreneur as early as high school. As a leader on my youth ministry team at my church, I felt the rush of sharing inspiration with others. The idea that I could inspire others to make their lives better, was very motivating for me. I imagined myself building my life around that, and since I didn’t have an example of what that looked like in my mind yet, I vividly remember lots of shining light and flowing stuff in my mind. LOL, not exactly a clear picture, but it FELT real to me.

I stayed connected to my purpose of inspiring others and close friends and family can attest to my desire to do this with everyone I know and love. It wasn’t until recently that I realized my purpose could extend into my professional career. And I can tell you, when I started this design business, I wasn’t really sure how I would connect my purpose of inspiring others to graphic design and branding. But in digging deep into where my “why” came from, and participating in a group business coaching program, I was able to discover my messaging which led to my new offering of helping other entrepreneurs discover their deeper purpose and building that into their branded design.

Branding is personal, especially for entrepreneurs. If your branding doesn’t come across authentic to who you are, it won’t successfully represent what you offer. This creates confusion for customers and a confused customer doesn’t buy.

If you are an entrepreneur who is struggling to connect with the clients that are right for you, then maybe it’s time to dig a little deeper into your purpose and ask yourself: what is my why? Some great tools for doing this are meditation, prayer and journaling. You can also work with a business or branding coach! This is a great option if you need accountability and someone with creative vision to see what you aren’t seeing in your own story.

If you feel a connection with this message and are interested in working with me to help you discover your branding. I am now taking clients for my one-on-one, 6-week, brand-development coaching program. DM me or fill out a contact form on my website to set up a free 20-min discovery call today!
