A lot of people come to me and they want to jump into all the things they see other businesses have - such as an iconic logo and a professional-looking website. But before you dive into designing logos and building websites, or even choosing a color palette and fonts for your business, the BEST way to start with your branding is to create a Brand Doc.
A Brand Doc holds all of the essentials of what your business stands for and what you are all about. It's the foundation of your business's marketing plan. Spending the time to create a Brand Doc will give you so much clarity and actually propel you forward in marketing your business.
Having everything in one place that you can reference back to time and time again, will simplify your processes and give you confidence as you show up on-line and on social media. From your Instagram bio and your Facebook Business Page description to your website copy, the words you use are so important, they act as searchable descriptors that will either draw people into your business or worst case - make it difficult for anyone to find you.
But it’s more than just searchable words, getting clear on your business’s mission will help you stand out among others in your industry. People crave connection and when you have values attached to your business that you know how to put out there, then followers can find you and connect!
For example, I have a branding and design business, but I also LOVE yoga, health & wellness, and I’m a momma of two elementary-age girls. So do you know who my clients have been so far this year? Health Coaches, Life Coaches, Interior Decorators, and Therapists, and guess what? They are all mommas too! That’s not a coincidence. We will attract people who have similar values as us IF we put our values out there.
There are several pieces of information that you will use over and over again. This content is helpful to write out and put it in a document that you can refer to and access to copy and paste whenever you need to repeat the information on a different platform. This will save you a lot of time and effort, which is something we all need - am I right?!
I work with my clients to help them craft all of their important brand statements, then I collect them into a Brand Doc that I put in Google Drive so that I can share it with them and they can have it easily accessible on-line whenever they need to copy and paste the information.
